2023 Gairdner Award Laureate Shares Indigenous Mental Health Research with Parliamentarians in Virtual Discussion

OTTAWA, October 31, 2023 – The Parliamentary Health Research Caucus (PHRC) and Research Canada are proud to host Aligning First Nations’ Values in Indigenous Mental Health, Substance Use, Trauma and General Wellness: A Virtual Discussion with Dr. Christopher Mushquash.

This invitation-only virtual event will explore 2023 Canada Gairdner Momentum Award Laureate, Dr. Christopher Mushquash’s groundbreaking research in Indigenous mental health with a particular focus on health policy and practice, the interaction of culture-based knowledge and traditional science, and the systemic problems that cause mental health challenges in Indigenous, northern and rural communities.

Throughout this frank discussion and Q&A with Parliamentarians and special guests, Dr. Mushquash will share insights from his work as a Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction and how his award-winning Indigenous-led mental health and substance use research has led to culturally and contextually appropriate services for Indigenous children, adolescents, and adults.
