Minister Duncan Honoured at Research Canada’s AGM

OTTAWA, June 6, 2016 – Research Canada held its 11th Annual General Meeting last week where the Honourable Dr. Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, was honoured for her six years of service to the ResearchCanadaAGM0098Parliamentary Health Research Caucus, a non-partisan forum which educates Parliamentarians about the social and economic benefits of Canadian health research and health innovation.

Senator Kelvin K. Ogilvie, (Nova Scotia) who served on the Health Research Caucus as Chair over the past six years, also received a commemorative plaque for his dedicated service. He remains with the Caucus as Past Chair along with Ms. Carole Hughes, MP (Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing). The Caucus is now lead by Mr. John Oliver, MP (Oakville) who was also in attendance.

Research Canada also welcomed three new Board Directors: Ms. Tara Bingham, who leads Federal Public Policy and Government Affairs for AstraZeneca Canada, Dr. Tarik Moroy, President and Scientific Director of the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) and Ms. Mina Mawani, President and CEO of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

Retiring Directors of Research Canada, Mr. Peter Brenders, Dr. Peter Nickerson, and Dr. Marla Shapiro, were thanked and honoured for their service with plaques along with Mr. Russell Williams, President and CEO of Innovative Medicines Canada, who has been a tireless advocate for Canadian health research and innovation over the past 12 years.

Research Canada’s Chair, Dr. Ryan Wiley (Shift Health) announced Research Canada’s Imagine: The Impact of Health Research in Canada, a supplement series designed for Parliamentarians profiling the impact of Canadian health research and innovation on Canadians.
