Research Canada Congratulates New Cabinet Ministers

OTTAWA, October 26, 2021 — On Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the 38 members of his gender-balanced Cabinet for this 44th Parliament of Canada, welcoming back 29 Ministers from the previous Cabinet and bringing on nine Members of Parliament as new Ministers. Research Canada wishes to congratulate each of these individuals on their newly appointed positions.

Research Canada has, over the years, worked hard to build strong relationships with Canada’s Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, and in particular, with those of Health and Innovation, Science and Industry. We are pleased to congratulate The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos on his appointment as Minister of Health, coming from his previous role as president of the Treasury Board, and we look forward to working closely with him in this new role. We also wish to congratulate and welcome back The Honourable François Philippe Champagne to Cabinet as Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry. Research Canada is also pleased to congratulate The Honourable Carolyn Bennett on her appointment as the new Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health.

Research Canada has also developed a strong relationship with The Honourable Patty Hajdu, former Minister of Health. We wish to sincerely congratulate her on her appointment as Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, and we wish her success in these new roles.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with Minister Duclos, Minister Champagne, Minister Bennett and the rest of Cabinet over the coming years to build support within government for a robust health research and innovation ecosystem to foster a healthier and more resilient Canada,” said Deborah Gordon-El-Bihbety, President and CEO of Research Canada.
